Training
Institutions under CTEVT Management
Over a period of 15 years, seventeen training
institutions have been established with the cooperation
of various TEVT development partners. These institutions
provide training in various areas such as agriculture,
construction, health, mechanical, electrical, tourism
and sanitation etc. The description of the courses
is tabulated in the table 1 below. The following
is the brief introduction of each of the schools/training
centers.
Training
Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI)
The
Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI)
was established in 1991 as a Nepali national institute
at Sanothimi in Bhaktapur with the mission to "improve
the quality of technical education and vocational
training of Nepal". A career ladder of training,
both pre-service and in service are being developed
to meet the needs of the TEVT sub-sectors. The ultimate
aim of TITI is to cover the nation wide training
needs of technical school management and administrative
staff at various levels in technical schools and
other vocational training programs.
It serves the clients through the following facilities:
- Well-equipped modern classrooms.
- Learning resource center, library and audiovisual
laboratory.
- Engineering workshop for demonstration.
- Multipurpose hall.
- Hostels and canteen for participants.
- Sports facilities, garden courtyard, temple
and all kinds of communication facilities.
TITI offers long-term course of Bachelor in Technical
Education (affiliated to Kathmandu University),
Advanced Diploma in Instructional Media Development,
Curriculum Development, Training Institute Management
etc., and short-term training on Instructional Skills,
Management Skills, Trainer's Training, Rural Technology,
Basic First Aids, Computer Application and Occupational
Instructional Skills etc.
Uttarpani Technical School
Uttarpani Technical School is situated at Uttarpani
in Dhankuta District of Koshi Zone. It offers training
for Junior Technical Assistants (JTA) in agriculture
and livestock & Junior Technician (JT) training
in livestock. In addition, the school provides short-term
training based on local needs.
Lahan Technical School
Lahan Technical School (LTS) is situated at Lahan
bazaar of Siraha District. It offers training for
the preparation of Junior Technician (JT) and Junior
Technical Assistants (JTA) in agriculture and livestock.
Besides, it also offers three years overseer course
and fifteen months training for the sub-overseer
level in construction. In addition, the school provides
short-term training based on local needs. LTS recruits
trainees from its catchments area, which include
14 districts of Mechi, Koshi, Sagarmatha, Janakpur
and Narayani zone covering Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari,
Khotang, Udaypur, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari,
Sindhuli, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa districts. In
addition to the catchments area, LTS also offers
sponsored and fee paying training opportunity.
Jiri
Technical School
Jiri Technical School (JTS) is situated near Jiri
Bazaar of Dolakha district in Janakpur zone. It
offers training for the preparation of Junior Technical
Assistants (JTA) in agriculture and livestock. Training
for sub-overseer in construction is also provided.
Auxiliary nurse-midwife (ANM) training is provided
in the health sector. In addition, the school provides
short-term training based on local needs and request
of other organizations. Duration of long-term training
is 2 years and 5 months.
Karnali Technical School
Karnali Technical School (KTS) is situated in Jumla
District of Karnali Zone. It offers training of
Junior Technical Assistants (JTA) in agriculture
and livestock, sub-overseer level in construction
and Auxiliary Nurse-Midwife (ANM) and Community
Medical Assistant (CMA) in health. In addition,
the school provides short-term training based on
local needs. Duration of training course is 2 years
and 5 months. Of the total seats, 40% is selected
from all districts of Karnali Zone and two adjoining
districts; Dailekh and Jajarkot, while other 60%
is left for self financed trainees and are selected
from all over Nepal.
Seti
Technical School
Seti Technical School (STS) is situated at Jogidabre
hill near Dipayal Bazaar of Seti Zone. It offers
training for the preparation of Junior Technical
Assistants (JTA) in agriculture and livestock, sub-overseer
in construction and auxiliary nurse-midwife in the
health sector. In addition, the school provides
a 3 years diploma course in engineering and also
short-term training program based on local needs.
Balaju Technical Training
Center
Balaju Technical Training Center (BTTC) is located
at Balaju in Kathmandu valley. It offers 3 years
Diploma course in electrical engineering and junior
technician level in mechanical, electrical and sanitation.
In addition, BTTC conducts short courses in basic
and specially designed programs according to the
industrial needs. To get enrolment, the applicant
should have passed at least 10th grade. The duration
of training is generally 2 years for the regular
long term training programs.
Dhawalagiri Technical
School
Dhawalagiri Technical School (DTS) is situated
at Lete in Mustang district of Dhawalagiri zone.
It offers training in lodge/hotel management, cooking/baking,
food and beverage production, house keeping, language
training, animal and vegetable farming, and food
and fruit processing etc. In addition to the long-term
training programs, the school also provides short-term
training based on local needs. The duration of the
training varies from 5 months to 2 years.
Rapti Technical School
The
Rapti Technical School (RTS) was established in
2050 BS as a rural technical school at Lalmatia
in Dang district of Rapti zone. It offers training
for Junior Technical Assistant in agriculture, Auxiliary
Health Worker in health program and sub-overseer
in construction trade. Recently it has started a
3 years diploma course in agriculture. Nepali citizens
who have passed class 10 are eligible for the training
of Junior Technical Assistant and SLC for agricultural
JTA.
Bheri Technical School
Bheri
Technical School (BTS) is situated in Nepalgunj
industrial area within the Nepalgunj Municipality
of Banke District of Bheri zone. BTS offers training
on mechanical, electrical, electronics, refrigeration
and air-conditioning, plumbing, basic computer,
automobile and office management/secretarial science.
The catchment area of the school is mid and western
terai of Nepal. Recently it has started a 3 years
diploma course in electrical engineering. Besides
long courses, it also conducts various short-term
training as per the needs and request of other institutions/
agencies.
Pokhara Tourism Training
Center
Pokhara
Tourism Training Centre (PTTC) is situated at Pokhara
in Kaski District of Gandaki zone. PTTC offers training
on cooking/baking, house keeping, food and beverage
service, front office, travel agency operation,
trekking guide, tour guide and computer training
by selecting trainees from its catchment area, which
covers Kaski, Tanahun, Nawalparasi, Syangja, Lamjung,
Gorkha, Palpa, Gulmi, Rupendehi, Kapilbastu, Chitwan
and Makawanpur districts. Nepali citizens who have
passed class 10 are eligible for cooking/baking
and waiter/ waitress training, while to get enrolment
in hotel management and travel agency operation,
the applicant should have at least intermediate
level degree. The duration of all training programs
is six months. Apart from this, it has started one-year
food production training program. It has also been
conducting different kinds of short-term training
and mobile training programs according to the needs
of the people of its catchment area.
School of Health
Science
School of Health Science is located at Bharatpur
in Chitawan District of Narayani zone. It offers
training in health science to produce health assistants.
Minimum requirement for the training is SLC with
Science, Mathematics and English subjects or Community
Medical Assistants (CMA) graduated from a recognized
institute are also eligible for the course. It has
annual enrolment capacity of 60. Beside the regular
teaching programs, the school organizes health education
training programmes and health treatment camp.
Panauti Technical
School
Panauti Technical School (PTS) is located at Panauti
in Kavre district of Bagmati zone. It was established
in 1997. The main purpose of this school is to produce
skilled automobile workforce to serve the growing
needs of small automobile industries. It is a joint
project of CTEVT and France-Nepal Brie Panauti Association
and Panauti Meaux Association.
Tansen Nursing School
Tansen Nursing School (TNS) was established in October
1999 with the joint effort of CTEVT and United Mission
to Nepal (UMN) at Tansen in Palpa district of Lumbini
zone with the aim of preparing nursing workforce
in Nepal and to improve health services and health
status in the western region of Nepal.
The duration of training program is three years
and the candidates are selected from the girls and
women who have passed SLC with at least second division
marks.
Rural Training Centers

In order to provide short-term vocational training,
two Rural Training Centers (RTCs) were established
at Bhimad in Tanahun district and at Khundi in Lamjung
district of Gandaki zone. RTCs offer training on
saving and credit mobilization, community leadership
development, village animal health, village public
health, orchard layout, nursery preparation and
vegetables seedling production etc., for the poor
and under-privileged people. They conduct mobile
as well as center-based training. They also conduct
training programs in agriculture, health, construction,
appropriate technology, community development as
per the need and request of institutions.
